Child Obesity in School Part III

Before we can reprimand our children’s schools, we must educate ourselves on the governmental rights afforded to our children. We have to know if our children are not being given the rights the government provided for them. The only way we will know this is to educate ourselves first and then visit the schools.

Perhaps you could suggest to your child’s school to have a student advisory committee to help them with meal planning. This would be a step in the right direction to battling child obesity in school.

I am an avid proponent of health and wellness for children. Child Obesity has become an obsession with me to spread the word about this illness and to get more people educated on the facts. Get a free copy of my e-book, “Child Obesity” by filling out the box to the right.

Child Obesity in School Part II

We cannot sit back and wait for others to address the problem of child obesity within our own household. We have to take an active role in combating this illness. We have to do whatever it takes to get this illness under control.

We must visit our children’s school periodically to see firsthand what our children are being served. Go to your child’s school and have lunch with them. You will be more apt to spring into action once you have witnessed and tasted what the schools are serving to your children.

The government sprung into action in 2004 when Congress passed legislation with the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act. This act requires schools to create a policy for wellness that addresses nutrition, education, physical activity, and nutrition guidelines for foods offered in schools. It is up to us as citizens and parents to make sure our children’s schools are adhering to these governmental policies.

Child Obesity in School

Parents are not in the fight of child obesity alone. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child”, we have to remember that our children spend a lot of hours away from us. The majority of a child’s time away from us is at school.

Go to your child’s school. Talk with the school cafeteria manager about the health and nutrition of the foods served to children daily. Look at the cafeteria to see if it has an appeal to you. If it does not appeal to you, then perhaps it does not appeal to children.

If talking to the school cafeteria manager does not render any results, go to see the principal of the school, the superintendent of schools, or the school board if need be. Do not sit idly by while your child’s health is in jeopardy. Talk to whomever you need to take to in order to get results.
